Why Relavco

A small bar with an outsized purpose.

We're not just making soap, we're closing a loop that helps both people and the planet.

First of its kind in the GTA

No other organization recycles and redistributes soap to Toronto-area residents the way we do. We're bringing a proven global model home.

Always free to those in need

Bars go to outreach communities at no cost, which is infinitely more affordable than commercial supply, so partners can choose our initiative without budget strain.

Kinder to our waterways

By rescuing soap headed for landfill, we cut the chemical runoff that harms marine life, turning waste into something actually beneficial.

Our mission

A bar of soap can carry dignity.

According to the Region of Peel's 2024 Point-in-Time Count, 2,799 individuals were experiencing homelessness on a single night in November 2024, a steep rise from previous years. For many, access to basic hygiene remains out of reach, making it harder to remain healthy and maintain well-being.

Relavco collects partially used bar soaps that would otherwise be thrown away. We professionally sanitize and recycle them, remake them into fresh bars, and donate every single one, free of charge, through local shelters and community organizations across the GTA.

Programs like this exist internationally, most notably through Clean the World. None have been brought to the GTA. We're changing that.

The process

From discarded to dignified.

Every Relavco bar travels through a careful, low-waste journey before it reaches someone's hands. Scroll to watch it happen.

01

Collect

Partially used bars are gathered from hotels and sponsors, specifically soap that would otherwise be sent to landfills.

02

Sanitize

Each bar is cleaned and sanitized to a verified standard, removing the outer layer and any contaminants so what remains is safe and pure.

03

Melt

Sanitized soap is heated to 75°C, hot enough to kill off any remaining pathogens and contaminants, then melted down to an imperfect, artisanal base, creating the foundation for every new Relavco bar.

04

Cast & mould

The blend is poured into molds and left to cure for one week into firm bars. Small air gaps and an imperfectly smooth texture are part of the process, adding to the artisan finish and homemade feel that makes every Relavco bar unique.

05

Wrap

Each bar is wrapped individually to prevent cross-contamination between bars and keep it sanitary until it reaches its new owner. Sanitation isn't just one step in the process, it's a standard we hold at every stage.

06

Distribute

100% of every batch is donated onward, free of charge, to outreach partners across the GTA, so every bar we remake finds its way directly to someone who needs it.

No added colour or fragrance

Bars aren't coloured or scented beyond the original soap's own scent, so there's no staining and no overpowering fragrance for anyone with sensitivities.

Our sponsors

The partners who supply the soap.

Hotels, suppliers, and local businesses donate the bars that make everything we do possible. We'd love to feature you here.
